CARES Director, Prof Markus Kraft recently did an interview with Vera Koester for ChemistryViews. He shares his research work in “The World Avatar (TWA) project”, which explores creating an interconnected network of digital twins that can describe the behaviour of any complex system. This could enable data-driven decisions to optimise all systems, which could be used to create chemical knowledge, laboratory automation, smart city operations, climate resilience, and national energy scenarios, among other applications. Here, he talks about TWA, what knowledge engineering and machine learning are, their applications in chemistry, and the biggest challenges and successes in using AI.
